A case study covering soda label design, POS designs, branding, and marketing / sales pieces for Cock ‘n Bull, a premium quality ginger beer soda brand.

Cock ‘n Bull is a premium brand of ginger beer. Crafted using high quality ingredients, Cock ‘n Bull is tasty enough to sip on its own, but also flavorful enough to mix cocktails with. A new soda label design and marketing materials were planned from the beginning of the project. As the project progressed, it became clear that the brand itself would also require an update to achieve its sales goals.

Brand Identity

The Moscow Mule cocktail has recently gained a huge amount of popularity and momentum. So too has ginger beer, one of the drink’s main ingredients. To capitalize on this surge in demand, Cock ‘n Bull agreed that the brand should be refreshed with a trendy and stylish new look. At the same time, C’nB felt that it was important to retain the brand’s original mascots to preserve brand recognition. With this restriction in mind, Ripley Studios created a type-based solution to solve Cock ‘n Bull’s branding problem. The result is a logo that is angular, modern, and sophisticated.

Soda Label Design

After finishing the updated logo design, the project shifted to soda label design. The old Cock ‘n Bull label tried to establish a slightly retro vibe. Over the years, it ended up looking stagnant and dated when compared to competitors. To refresh the label, Ripley Studios channeled the persona of the new and improved brand identity. Carrying the branding through to the label created a much more stylish and unique product experience. By mixing different type styles and weights, the new Cock ‘n Bull bottle looks more dynamic, with great shelf presence.

Marketing Materials

Ripley Studios also designed point of sale and marketing materials to help support the brand’s re-launch. New cooler stickers help draw attention to the redesigned label, and also illustrate that Cock ‘n Bull is great for Moscow Mules. A brand sell sheet, again using dynamic typography and an angular style, helps lend credibility in a business to business sales setting. Ripley Studios also created the brand’s new tagline, “Wild enough to mix, tame enough to sip.” This ties together the brand’s marketing materials, and reinforces its sophisticated, witty persona.
